funcastle's around 23rd and L -- look for the fun, more than the castle
also there's a great early show at R5 tonight with Something's Wrong from North Carolina -- GREAT passionate catchy punk with powerful female vox -- makes me think of Crimpshrine and This is My Fist all rolled into one delightfully sloppy (goopy?) burrito. Also playing is X-Ray Press (Seattle) , Riot on Rosewood, and a band called Pipsqueak -- but not the old Sacramento one, this one is also from Seattle.
Show starts at 7 will be done by 10, it's all ages and free but bring some dough for all the touring bands, 16th and Broadway.
From the shameless self-promotion dept: Hey. I'm having a Cd release par-tay this Sunday at the Java Lounge on 16th St. The English Singles and The Boyfriendz are also playing, and I think it will be pretty fun. They serve brew now! Anyway, it starts at eight if anybody wants to come. Thanks. -Jay
Candlelight, the new Viet/Chinese place on 21st St. by Pieces, serves Vietnamese sandwiches for $2.50! For some reason, they're not on the menu yet, so just ask.
The bread is decent, not as dreamy as New Paris Bakery. They marinate the meat for a couple of days, and I thought the pork was pretty rocking. Mayo? Good thing it's one of my favorite condiments. Overall, pretty solid, and of course, great central location.
Is it me, or is the Japanese Bazaar kind of overrated?
I feel like a lot of frying/ watering down of food goes on there. As you suggested, I was excited to try the udon but after tripping over a few fat people with boxes of tempura, I left.
I find it to be so weirdly predictable that people who post anonymously will say something dicki-ish. The exception is Lauren, who last week signed a bitchy comment, which took chutzpah. It's weird because you could make up any old name. Overrated by who? Ebert and Roeper? Consumer Reports? That's such a stupid thing to say.

where is the funcastle?
Luigis by the slice, in the MARRS building, located at 20th and J Street.
Luigi's is the Fun Garden, not the Funcastle, which is a house.
I've been thinking that the Funcastle might want to change it's name.
