So I'll be honest, a lot of the places I write about for Midtown Monthly can be really fun to visit once, but I know I won't probably visit them very often. Especially if they serve really high fat, gut bomb-style food. I won't name any names, but I can't eat a bacon royale very often and maintain my girlish figure. HOWEVER, Grand Central Station in West Sac is haunting my dreams. I feel that I can almost still taste their fiery, vinegary wing sauce. I want to eat nothing but cheese steaks from there from now on. And what the fuck is in their "new york sauce" that makes it more addictive than crank? And I just found out on yelp that there's one in Rancho too.
I am reasonably sure I am going to the Mcormick and Schmick opening tonight, unless I got the date wrong yet again.

I started my Valentines at Vientiane. The lease expires on Feb 17 and they don't have a new location yet. I put my email in the address bowl to find out where they move to.
My date has a history degree and she loves WWI and WWII, war poetry and comic books. We watched her DVD of "Thin Red Line" last night on the big screen.
She compared a battle scene in the last Lord of the Rings movie to a battle scene in Gallipoli.
Um, the McCormick and Schmicks event was last night.
Or maybe it is tonight. Much confusion abounds over this silly thing.
Thin Red Line is one of the best war movies ever.

When in Tokyo and looking for Ramen..Try to avoid the franchise Ajisan Ramen and hit the mom and pop shops.Stinky is best when choosing Ramen Shops.My Faves are Moyashi Ramen(bean sprout ramen) and Hino Kuni Ramen(fire country ramen)which is spicy!!!Hino Kuni is also Kumamoto`s nickname maybe because of numerous hot springs and the majestic Aso Volcano.The thin red line is an awesome movie--it`s a tear jerker for me.Talking about WW 2--my wife found some old family pictures of some relatives dressed in uniform.One photo was was actually was in a battle area.I posted them on my flickr site(flickr-japangets).There also an Ice Gamera picture from the kuju mountain fest..Jay
There has been a giant crab on the north lawn of the Capitol with a McCormick & Schmick's banner on it all day today, maybe in honor of tonight's dinner?
I plan on relentlessly abusing their Happy Hour lunch menu ($1.99 for things like wings, burgers, etc) as long as they accept my orders for wimpy non-alcoholic drinks (coffee, etcetera.) There was a restaurant in Portland that had a similar policy...I have a sneaking suspicion it was another part of the McCormick & Schmick's chain (Jake's Grill) so they may well go along with my cheapass behavior.
I loved how Woody blew off his ass with his own grenade in Thin Red Line.
If I loan you my M1942 single decal Luftwaffe helmet to wear on your next date, you just might get lucky. Or if she likes WW1 better, you can borrow the M1916 one (but it aint got no liner anymore).
Too bad there's no Japanese restaurants with a Back to Bataan (I wanna see that Japanese man) theme 'cause that'd be uber romantic. Sexy time!!!

Beck: Try the Times Square deli on Fulton, just north of Alta Arden and across from Target. If I recall correctly, the guy wo runs it is the brother of the guy who runs Grand Central Station, which I used to eat at when I worked for Tower corporate back in the day. Nothing like a cheesesteak or pastrami grinder sprinkled liberally with Dave's Insanity Sauce ...
Not a fan of "Thin Red Line" myself. Worst Malick movie. Give me a good "Apocalypse Now". Cause you're still the best...better than all the rest.

Apocolypse Now! is certainly the mother of all war/psych-hell movies and I hold it very high. But I think Thin Red Line also gets high marks for the introspective parts that you don't normally see in manowar flicks.

Dave - It sounds like love at first sight! If she can name the lost U - Boat described in "Shadow Divers" I would consider proposing on your second date. You can borrow my 1942 Argentine issue 1911a knockoff for persuading/impressing if that would help.
