A question for you folks with kids: where should I spend the 20 bucks burning a hole in my pocket for a toy for the MidMo holiday FUNraiser? It would feel better to shop somewhere local (or in Davis) than at Target. What kinds of things do kids like? Fireworks? Artisanal jam?
This is a better clip of the Mantles at the Woodsist fest than I shot, that's for sure. Mattyrob looks cool but unfortunately Virginia is obscured by a cymbal. Catch them at The Hub tomorrow. The Mantles are always tops. I wonder if Matt will drive them all up to The Hub in his white mustang convertible.

You should check out Alphabet Moon in Davis. It's a cool toy/gift store in downtown. I used to find neat stuff there for my little cousins.

For interesting and educational toys we go to the RC Country Hobby store on Folsom and 61st. They've got tons more than just model cars and foamer trains. You can spend $20 on something great there.
The Wizard Pond is also kind of cool, that's in River Park on Carlson, in that tiny little shopping center.

Hahaa, good thing I check Heckasac every day to see if I'm mentioned! The Mustang convertible will not be making the trip. True that it is unquestionably sick as death, but unfortunately as long as there is a black plastic bag over the back window, I can ONLY drive with the top down (perfect for winter drives! I drove to work today with one of those Peruvian hats on). On top of that, the back seat totally uncomfortable, AND there's no room for equip in the trunk. Actually been thinking it would be pretty awesome to do a short tour and tow a Uhaul thing behind it (gotta use that V6 for something other than peeling out), but also throw into the equation that it gets like 9 miles a gallon and costs $45 to fill up. There you have your answer.
I was going to recommend Alphabet Moon and Wizard Pond, as well. Places for toys in midtown: Mixed Bag on K Street has quite a few toys and they are almost all high-quality, and University Art sometimes has really good toys and always has good crafty things for kids.

The Lexis news in verrry interesting because they've been running ads since this Summer for a ton of different positions in the Sacramento area. And I just went through a preliminary interview for a position here in town. Now it kinda makes sense because the details have been very brief and what I was told, I kept wondering why it was here instead of their corporate headquarters.
And yeah, behemoth. Both as a grad student and librarian, I've run up against their pricing practices.
We got some very sleek mock turtlenecks in black with red trim. Quite slimming.
Fat Face and Alphabet Moon are my favorite things about Davis.
