becca? becky? same thing.

I have to admit that it's getting under my skin that I am getting some anonabuse for reprinting that letter from the news and review. Why don't you folks write the editor and harangue them for printing that mean letter? That is a seriously rude letter and I was surprised that they printed it. So I would suggest you send you ire to sactoletters@newsreview.com or to the mean old editor at nancyw@newsreview.com

A big reason the blog has been pretty boring and has had little content of late is because I rarely eat out anymore. That's a 180 degree turnaround for me because I used to eat out every single night but I really like to cook so I wasn't always that happy with that. Not to mention that I was spending most of my income on food and wine. I've been doing a lot of cooking and learning new things in that arena, which is exciting to me, but hardly exciting to write about. Also, you try writing a blog for years on end and try to find new things to say. I'm just thinking out loud here because I wonder why it's gotten so boring (for me too). I'll think about packing it in but then there will be a day here and there where everyone is commenting and it's fun so I can't decide.

Hmm..music. The new Joanna Newsom is really growing on me. I am going to see her in Santa Cruz on friday with Bill Callahan (or as she calls him in the record "dear Billy") opening. I'm also excited about the upcoming Alela Diane show at Delta of Venus. For those of you in the Bay Area, J. News is playing there mid-month. I also heard she's playing in London with the London Philharmonic, which is insane. I want to get the new White Magic album because I liked Quixotic (I won't spell it the right way) more than they probably deserved. I guess it's because I saw them live before I knew anything abou them. The Finches have a show midweek next week in SF. I really wish I could go, but I probably won't. They are entreating people for shows this winter. Who can help them get a show in Sac? Not it. Seriously, click on that link and listen to Last Favor. I love it!

The new Midtown Monthly will be out this weekend. I apologize in advance for the corny jokes in my column. Sorry if they make you groan. I am hatching some sort of Eastern European column for next month, if people have suggestions. I can't believe there is no Polish food in the Sac area! That is insane. Standard hangover food.

Hey, don't be so hard on yourself over this blog; you'll always have a dedicated reader in Humboldt County, and once it catches on with the growers, the sky's the limit. And I drove all the way to Sacramento last week just to read Midtown Monthly. Alright, technically I came down for Thanksgiving, but I read your Broadway rundown while watching Connie make a pumpkin pie, and that's a killer combination. Even better than writing this with Tucker Carlson talking in the background.

And no Polish food? Seriously? Not even in North Highlands or nuthin'?

Check out Stolighniy Russian Ukrainian & American Cuisine in North Highlands. The address is 5601 Watt Ave., Ste 2. It's down the street from where I work and I've always wondered about it. I think when I mentioned it to you before I called it Stolichnaya, like the vodka. Silly me. -gw

nope, i stand firm in my claim of no polish food. i'm sure someone would step up here and set me straight if there was any. but i will check out the stoli place for the article. it's a restaurant? that would be perfect!

I personally could go either way with Becca's column. It's not bad or good. I kinda feel like thats what its gunning for, also.

Next agenda item: Midtown Monthly.
WHERE can I find this? I live in the heart'o'midtown and have never even seen a copy.

There's plenty of people out there who feel like their 'audience' (or their ego) demands that they post every day, about every single topic of interest or otherwise. If things are slow, why not take a break or be like the Quakers and only speak when you have something of worth to say? You're an excellent writer, so it's not like people will stop visiting your blog just because you're not posting all the time.

Otherwise, I'd guess no on Polish restaurants because Sacto just hasn't been a big draw for that particular expat group, as oppposed to the Evangelicals from the former Soviet States or the various groups from the Balkans (even if Peja & Vlade have bailed). My guess is that you don't find a lot of Poles wanting to come to the US because they're Evanglelical Christians, so they'd be more likely to go to LA or the Bay Area instead of Sac/West Sac.

Do you know a place called Smaak in Antelope?
http://www.europeanbuffet.com
Yeah, I don't think there is Polish food in Sac. Old Roseville has a polish community center and they have a festival or Easter event that I was invited to by one of my Polish customers. San Francisco only has 1 Polish restaurant that I know of. I've been there and it was pretty good, but more pricey than Greenpoint and kinda gussied up.

I have been trying to ignore the fact that there are two records that I really want but should wait until my next pay check to buy them. But now you leave me with no choice! Please give a full report on the J.N show because I haven't decided if I should go to the SF one.

I have checked out a few of those locations before, including infusion on multiple occasions and I didn't see a single midtown monthly.

beckler said...

perhaps you should try hemp in the heartland.

leon said...

I finally picked up a copy at Temple last night. Surprisingly it was my first time to that cafe.

beckler said...

why didn't you pick it up on your weekly visit to hemp in the heartland? how are those hemp baby clothes working out? the bonus is that you can smoke them after ira poops in them.
