Laureen Landau

Laureen Landau was a Sacramento painter and City College instructor. HVJ is currently working at her house, helping to catalog her stuff so that it can eventually be turned into a museum. She was a pretty eccentric character. This sacbee article is about this subject. Some of you may recognize that light above.

I've also heard there is one of Keith, and possibly one of me from our days at the T. I'd really like to see them.

Wow, that article was kind of fascinating. I took an art class form this teacher about 10 or so years ago at City. She missed the first several weeks of the class, where we had a sub in her stead. When Landau returned, she used the hour to explain why she'd been out sick so long, claiming someone had poisoned her by painting a toxic substance on the surfaces in her house. She thought she knew who did it and said that maybe it was in retaliation for admitting that she admired some of Francis Bacon's paintings. At the time it seemed plausable to me, but maybe Landau was just paranoid.

She called me back in 2003 asking me to write an article for a weekly publication in Sacramento. She had done months of research as to who she thought had been poisoning her all along.
