There is Babs, waiting for the reappearance of her best friend-water. I want to do a public service announcement. Did you know that if you take in a stray kitten, her basic immunizations and spay/neuter will run you in the neighborhood of 400-500 bucks? Guess who did not know that? Me! On the other hand, if you adopt from a shelter, it will probably be more like 40-75 bucks. So, my brilliant plan is to drop Babs off at the pound and pick her up in a month. I haven't told Babs my plan yet. J.K. of course. I say that because DP will take it seriously.
OK, we all probably know that Opa! Opa! is not the best restaurant around. I have not been there, but the yelps are pretty bad. HOWEVER, the owner has generously offered my community garden 10% of the profits this weekend. And we need the help. We don't even have a shed. Or a pot to piss in. So if you have ever been curious about their food, please check it out on Saturday or Sunday. Or if there is something you like there, please comment about it and let me know.
Don't forget the Ancient Sons show at Old I on Friday.

babs benefit show? guest appearance by dj leroy?
Becks, you must be going to a regular ol' vet. Have you checked out "Animal Birth Control Clinic" for the gettin' fixed part? Then for the shots, there are low cost vaccination things every couple months in front of petco/petsmart places and usually the city/county has a low cost one two times a year as well. Also, you can buy the vaccinations at the feed store and administer them yourself. Cheap it up dude.

it's kinda too late for the shots, i've done 2 out of 3 of the series. what if the low cost spaying is not as high quality. i don't want them butchering my baby. and she can't have a scar because i'm hoping to get her into cat modeling at some point. i'll look into it, though. thanks.
The ABC place is good, I'll vouch for their work. My fam's cats and dogs have been going there since the 80's and Fu did a lot of cat modeling back in the day. It was porn.
it's not too late for the last shots. Get thee to a folding table in a parking lot.

I can also vouch for the insane expense of the "free" kitten. Woody had worms and I had to go to a regular vet, and I then had to get the high quality ear mite and flea medicine, for a grad total of $350. I did save money on getting him fixed by doing it thru SPCA - $45 I think, and I was happy to support them.

Too cute, especially the white socks. Or are those evening gloves she's wearing on her front paws?
Also the trick is to adopt stray animals after somebody else has gone to the trouble of getting them fixed and vaccinated. I've had several pets who were likely dumped and could never understand how somebody could put that much time/money into an animal and then leave them when they move away.
Yep, it cost $400 to get Olive the stuff that Hazel got for free at the pound.
Opa Opa offers some gluten free items.

Way to talk up the merits of Opa! Opa!, especially considering you've never been. I've always thought it was pretty decent Greek fast food. The gyros are tasty, the hummus is spicy, the pita is fluffy and warm. And they have three types of Metaxa!
'animal birth control clinic' is the most adorbale insitutional name I've ever heard
Patrone
p.s.-if anyone is looking for adorable kittens with all their shots and that are fixed, check the inside east sac free paper. there's an ad with a picture. also, cecily hastings sticks it to kj in the intro. she's a tough broad.
Hey, anonymous...Way to talk up the merits of your own restaurant!
That's why shelter cats rule for cheapskate cat fans like me. And don't forget they even come with a microchip ...
i'm just going to tattoo bab's info on her lower back.
I hope that is not the owner. He is notorious for online entanglements.
He needs to spend more time becoming notorious for good food. Keep working at it, dude. Get off the internet! (I ate there once.)
I was sort of into the Opa at first, but listening to the way the owner talks to his staff and customers (somewhere between bossy and asshole) i stopped going there.
-natalie.
I like the food at opa opa pretty well... and one way or the other it's pretty cool that he's giving a 10% cut to a neighborhood garden!
I'm curious to look at that new inside the city- they were pretty blatantly pro KJ pre-election.

Bruni's final column! Who's taking his place?
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/26/dining/reviews/26rest.html?ref=dining
some other dude. there was a cool little audio piece last week with clips from people who have gone to dinner with him for his reviews. the dude was the last clip, and of course they didn't have his picture.
i want to read bruni's book.
I like Babs' patient stare at the faucett. so trusting that more is bound to come out soon.

log in word: strear, as in strear clear of the opa opa controversy about to erupt here
For kitten-related cheap shots, try VIP at Western Feed Supply on the Saturdays from 12:30 to 2. http://www.sacanimal.org/vaccines.html
I actually thought Anon was right on in the description of Opa Opa as Greek fast food. It's about what you'd get at a mall food court. And if that's what you're expecting, it's not bad.
Ancient Sons are playing Luigi's Fungarden Friday, NOT Old I! Come to Luigi's for a slice of Ancient fun!

dear becky,
please post your dj playlist from the luigis show. emmitt rhodes and...?
all the best,
chad
that's a closely guarded secret. mostly i just played king tuff and the wind.
By the way, I meant inexpensive vaccinations for kittens. Not "cheap shots" at kittens.
I got my kittens fixed at the SPCA. It was very inexpensive and they did a good job. http://www.sspca.org/SpayNeuter.html
