Does anyone (and I'm mostly asking katy) know the skinny on drinking beer in public parks? I wanna have an evening volleyball party for my birthday, and no one has a yard big enough so I was thinking of one of those parks where the kickball games usually happen. If I bought cups and people tried to be discreet would we get busted? Cuz my friends are all such boozehounds that if there's no beer I'm not sure if they'll show up. Who am I kidding, I just can't play any sport without beer being involved.
Gah. Creepy Sac true crime story. Here's a link. I was watching court tv last night and they showed a bit of footage of Century stadium theater. This story is horrible. This lady in Sac tortured two of her grown daughters to death and got away with it for about 10 years. I shouldn't watch these shows because I start to look under the bed for serial killers and have nightmares.
Speaking of Knightmares, does anyone have any more tour news? The dudes (and one lady) will all be back in town on tuesday, and I can't wait. The town seems empty lately without them.

if you keep the drinking on the DL you're usually okay. plastic cups would be a good idea. once a lady cop showed up and kicked someone's empty can of pabst that was sitting on the baseball diamond. then she lectured everyone and threatened some tickets. but that was the only encounter as far as i am aware. it's easier to get away with than you might think but precautions are important.
For years they used to have those weekly drunken volleyball games at McKinley & they always drank out of cups. Not that I'm recommending McKinley - it's pretty heavily patrolled as far as parks go & I've been caught trying to bust a discreet brew or two there. I'm just saying the cups might be the key.

I'm sure drinking in city parks is forbidden, but drinking in some county parks is okay, provided that you've officially reserved your picnic area and all that.
I was at an event in Discovery Park a few weeks ago and we were having a grand old time with our keg. The organizers chose Discovery specifically so they could have beer.
If you just want to wander on to a park with beer, then, as other folks have said, be very discreet, else you might get a ticket.
Thanks for the info. I think I will just buy some cups and let er rip. I can't wait to spike a volleyball into all my friends faces!
best bet is to find a low patrol park. we had really good luck at the kickball park and i've had luck at the one where my bday party was.
but, tickets are $250 per container. theoretically, they can also bust you for being drunk in public.
so, i recomend hiding the booze well. say, in the back of someone's truck? and then inconspicuous packaging.
and leave before dusk. in most parks it is illegal to hang after sunset.
other solutions are:
renting certain county parks for a nominal fee (most are in Roseville) that will accept alcohol with a permit.
going to a park in Davis. i'm not sure if it's really legal or not, but it is accepted. i've seen kegs out in the open there.
getting a permit to shut down your block for a block party. this is way cheaper, but probably more of a hassle. still, i think i need to find a way to make this happen!!!
all that said, it's also best if you haul off your own cans/bottles.
but, i've rarely followed any rules, never used more than a brown bag for concealing and have yet to get busted.
It definitely has to be downtown so everyone can ride bikes. I think the idea of a block party sounds great. Someone should do that.
tour still going well. lots of bad smells. salt lake city is a cool town. missoula is also rad. gotta go dudes...

You guys are in Missoula? You know what that means?!? You're all gonna get laid! I've heard the ladies in Missoula are, uh, friendly.
I would suggest Curtis Park, I go by there everyday and it seems real quiet and cop free.
Heya Heckasac,
Once again I'm typing just a few paces away from Albright. Tour is F'in great. Highlights:
Listening to the new Super Furry Animals album (unreleased) with the drummer from the Flaming Lips (The new guy, Cliff, been in the band for about 3 years now)on his porch. Then hitting repeat and listening to it again.
Going to bed, telling Paul that Cliff is the Flamimng Lips drummer and having Paul get up and say, "I've got to get him stoned." Which he did.
Showing up in Laramie, Wyoming and stepping into a bar called the Buckhorn to watch this hippie/cowboy crazy guy get kicked out -- undoubtedly a regular occurance. Four hours later, D.P. and this very fellow are driving us to stay at this crazy rancher's house where we saw an insane collection of Old West memorabilia and cowboys and ranchers partied all night.
By the way, the guy we stayed with was Matt, the owner of the Fireside, the bar Mathew Sheppard left before he got killed. According to Matt, Matthew Sheppard was involved in some Meth and or prostitution business which was the real reason that he was killed. I have no idea if Matt was not owning up to the reality of their town being a fucked up place where people get killed for being gay or if he had the inside scoop. I felt very uncomfortable talking to him about it.
Finally, watching the Nightmares every night. I love those fuckers.
Once again, I miss you guys and hopefully you will come to Chico. I'm gonna drop Beau's number on these comments so watch for it.
