weird forest

Local label Weird Forest (this is Chad's label, right?) has an impressive website and has been putting out some stuff (local and otherwise) that has garnered all kinds of attention (local and otherwise). I've seen the Inca Ore release up close and it's a really cool looking record. A giant pink and blue cat's eye. I can't speak for the content.

it's Chad's label.

but, Aaron's company Abide Visuals did the site. he also designed Jay Howell's Punks Git Cut site and Exit Strategy Magazine.

Without a doubt Chad has always made the most impressive looking local CD releases. I often want to buy them just for the packaging. Chad is a rad guy too, as well as throwing his money into a bottomless (but good looking) pit-- so I suggest support and buy.

Happy Friday heckasac,

I'm pretty sure I have all of Weird Forest's releases up through the So So Many White White Tigers picture disc. I have to say that my favorite by far is their first (and one of Chad's own): Klondike & York's "The Holy Book." Great way out jazz in the vein of Coltrane's "Interstellar Space" (but even less controlled). It's awesome.

Definitely glad Chad's willing to be broke ass in order to bring us good music.

What do you mean broke? The dude works at Tower so he can't be doing too bad. Those snobby Tower fatcats, always lighting their cigars with hundred dollar bills and such.

True. I can't believe I left my lucrative Tower job for this shit. I only eat carrots cause that's all I can afford. Meanwhile, fucking Stockdale just yucks it up and eats free popcorn whenever I stop by -- to stick it to me. His beard is so weird it looks like a mustache. F that guy and his little Tower partner, Louie.

Brokebak my ass,

The 3 lp box set of the Polish black metal outfit Dead Raven Choir is a must have item. They do covers of Leanord Cohen and Townes Van Zandt, plus the music sounds like ancient sea chanty channeled through Caroliner Rainbow. I can't imagine metal dudes getting into this, which is a good thing.

I have some earlier Dead Raven Choir stuff (3" CDs, actually) and it's a bit difficult to get into: "moody" folk music with spoken/chanted poetry that in the end is just kind of stupid. I'm glad to hear that the metal thing their doing now is more interesting.

Christian Kiefer chiming in on the subject of next-level black metal???

I'll take that with even less than a grain of salt.
